Which school had the highest participation??
Walnut Valley Unified School District (1970-2020) is proud to celebrate 50 years of Educational Excellence.
On July 1, 1970, Walnut Valley Unified opened its doors to 4800 kids from Kindergarten to 12th grade. It consisted of 5 elementary schools, plus Suzanne Middle School and Walnut High School. Cyrus J Morris was the Superintendent.
The district grew rapidly in the 80’s and 90’s, becoming a distinguished school district that attracted many families to the Walnut/Diamond Bar area. Today, it is home to 15 highly rated schools with over 13,000 students and almost 1400 teachers and staff.
There were plans to do a big in-person celebration in October 2020. However, due to COVID restrictions and school closures, many of the events planned were cancelled. But we did not want to let this momentous occasion pass without wishing WVUSD a big “Happy 50th Birthday!”
Please join the celebration by signing up for the Virtual 5k/1k Fun Run and by going on a virtual bus ride with our resident WVUSD historian, Ray McMullen. Visit the different schools to view pictures from the past and present. Donations are also being accepted to fund the district’s STEAM program.
